The architectural style of the enclosure corresponds to the neoclassical period. It is considered one of the best preserved in Latin America. The Degollado Theater has a porch that displays a tympanum with the theme “Apollo and the Muses” in high relief of travertine marble, made by the sculptor Benito Castañeda, with the legend “May the rumor of discord never arrive”. In its lobby you can see the sculpture “The Goddess of Fortune”, made between 1870 and 1880 by the Italian artist Carlo Nicoli, restored in 2007 by Hugo Andrés Testilini Deza. The main hall of the theater, with a ticketing capacity of 867 seats, is similar to the Scala in Milan, it has a mural that represents the “Fourth Song of the Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri, made by the Jalisco painters Jacobo Gálvez, Gerardo Suarez and Carlos Villasenor. In the vault of the room there is also a wooden sculpture of an eagle holding a piece of wood in its beak and the flag of Mexico in its claws. The Degollado Theater is an icon of our cultural heritage and an emblematic venue of artistic excellence. Only activities of high artistic and cultural value are presented here: music, opera, theater, dance and multidisciplinary activities. It is currently the headquarters of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra. __________________________________

Iniciada su construcción en 1856 con un proyecto a cargo del arquitecto Jacobo Gálvez, el Teatro Degollado fue inaugurado el 13 de septiembre de 1866, con la ópera “Lucía di Lammermoor” de Gaetano Donizzetti, y con la actuación de la soprano Ángela Peralta, conocida mundialmente como el “Ruiseñor Mexicano”.

El estilo arquitectónico del recinto corresponde al período neoclásico. Es considerado uno de los mejores conservados de Hispanoamérica.

El Teatro Degollado cuenta con un pórtico que luce un tímpano con el tema “Apolo y las Musas” en alto relieve de mármol travertino, realizado por el escultor Benito Castañeda, con la leyenda “Que nunca llegue el rumor de la discordia”.

En su vestíbulo se aprecia la escultura “La Diosa de la Fortuna”, realizada entre 1870 y 1880 por el artista italiano Carlo Nicoli, restaurada en 2007 por Hugo Andrés Testilini Deza.

La sala principal del teatro, con un aforo en boletaje de 867 lugares, es semejante a la Scala de Milán, cuenta con un mural que representa el “Canto Cuarto de la Divina Comedia” de Dante Alighieri, elaborado por los pintores jaliscienses Jacobo Gálvez, Gerardo Suárez y Carlos Villaseñor.

En la bóveda de la sala también destaca la escultura en madera de un águila que sostiene en su pico un trozo de madera y en sus garras la Bandera de México.

El Teatro Degollado es ícono de nuestro patrimonio cultural y recinto emblemático de excelencia artística En él se presentan sólo actividades de alto valor artístico y cultural: música, ópera, teatro, danza y multidisciplina. Actualmente es la sede de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco.
